In yet another instance of vandalism, a temple was targeted in Brisbane in Australia on Saturday (4), according to a local media report. This marked the fourth such instance in the country in two months.

Devotees, who went to the temple for their morning prayers on Saturday morning, were the first to notice the act.

The Australia Today reported that the Shree Laxmi Narayan Temple, located in the Burbank suburb in the south of Brisbane, was allegedly vandalised by Khalistani supporters.

The news outlet quoted Ramesh Kumar, a local resident, as saying that while he has been aware of the instances of targeting Hindu temples in Melbourne, it was a “depressing experience” to face the hate themselves.

“Temple Priest and devotees called this morning and notified me about the vandalism on the boundary wall of our temple,” Satinder Shukla, the temple’s president, told The Australia Today.

He said a detailed statement will be issued after the management committee met the police authorities.

Last month, another Hindu temple in Brisbane — Gayatri Mandir — received intimidating calls from Khalistan extremists based in Lahore in Pakistan.

Sarah L Gates, director of Hindu Human Rights, told The Australia Today, “This latest hate crime is a pattern of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) globally, clearly attempting to terrorise Australian Hindus. Coupled with a barrage of propaganda, illegal signs, and cyberbullying, the organisation intends to present all-pervasive threats, fear, and intimidation.”
