YASH RAJ FILMS (YRF) on Thursday confirmed that a third installment in the “Mardaani” franchise is in development.

The announcement comes on the 10th anniversary of the release of the first film in the series, which starred Rani Mukerji as tough cop Shivani Shivaji Roy.

The original “Mardaani,” directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, premiered on August 22, 2014, and was a commercial and critical success.

The upcoming film will see Rani Mukerji reprising her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy. YRF shared the news on Instagram with a post that read: “10 years of #Mardaani and the next chapter awaits… Celebrating the feisty, daredevil cop #ShivaniShivajiRoy and the spirit of #Mardaani today. Thank you for a decade of love and appreciation for our beloved franchise. We are inspired… again… thanks to you. #RaniMukerji”

The first “Mardaani” film’s success led to a sequel, “Mardaani 2,” released in 2019. The sequel was directed by Gopi Puthran, who had also written the original film.

YRF has hinted that the third installment is “coming soon” but has not provided further details on the production or release date. (PTI)
