Wimbledon wishes MS Dhoni, India’s iconic cricket captain, as he turns 42: ‘A true legend’

Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also wished Dhoni along with the Indian cricket board and other former cricketers.

FORMER India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Friday (7) turned 42 and among the millions who wished the legendary cricketer was Wimbledon.

“Happy Birthday to a true legend and Wimbledon fan, MS Dhoni,” it posted on Twitter.

Dhoni, who played for India for almost 15 years and led India to win three International Cricket Council tournaments including two world cups (2007 and 2011), is one of the most revered sporting icons in the country. He still plays the Indian Premier League and this year, led his franchise Chennai Super Kings to a record-equalling fifth title.

The wicket-keeper-batter, whose last international appearance was in the semi-final of the 2019 world cup in England where he had a tearful exit as India lost, was also wished by his one time colleague Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster shared a throwback picture with the former captain on Twitter and posted, “May you always fly high like your helicopter shots. Happy birthday, MS!”

Another former India cricketer Suresh Raina said, “Happy birthday to my big brother @msdhoni! From sharing the pitch to sharing our dreams, the bond that we’ve created is unbreakable. Your strength, both as a leader and as a friend, has been my guiding light. May the year ahead bring you joy, success, and good health. Keep shining, keep leading, and keep spreading your magic.”

Dhoni’s India and Super Kings teammate Ravindra Jadeja tweeted, “My go-to man since 2009 to till date and forever. Wishing you a very happy birthday mahi bhai. see u soon in yellow.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also wished Dhoni, posting, “Captain. Leader. Legend! Wishing @msdhoni former #TeamIndia Captain & one of the finest to have ever graced the game – a very happy birthday”

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said, “Happy Birthday to the most successful captain of Team India, @msdhoni! Your charisma, leadership, and extraordinary skills continue to inspire millions around the globe. Thank you for your unparalleled contributions to Indian cricket.”

The Ranchi-born cricketer played 90 Tests, 350 one-day internationals and 98 T20s for India in which he scored more than 16,000 runs and took over 600 catches.
