THE Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) bagged its second state (Punjab) in India electorally earlier this year and it is now eyeing to make serious inroads in Gujarat, the home state of prime minister Narendra Modi, later this year when it goes to elections.

On Wednesday (8), the party which is led by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal dissolved its unit in the coastal state to make a fresh beginning towards the elections.

However, state unit president Gopal Italia was continuing in his post and a new team will be in place soon, Indo-Asian News Service reported.

“Till date the organisation was formed with an idea or motive to spread party messages to each and every household of the state, but the new organisation will be formed with an aim to win elections,” Italia said while making the announcement.

He added that the dissolved unit was expanded when new leaders were brought in the party and were given tasks considering their experience and knowledge. He said those leaders have put in hard work and that’s why the AAP has started playing the role of the opposition in the coastal state in a very short period of time.

Gujarat mainly witnesses a bi-party political contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in power for more than two decades now, and the Indian National Congress.

“During this journey, many more workers and leaders have joined the party, they too are experienced and knowledgeable in their respective fields, now the party needs to get ready for the elections and so it has been decided to have a bigger organisation,” the AAP leader added.

“Right from taluka, district, city and state committees, frontal organisations will be formed very soon, in which everyone in the party will get a role. It will be a big organisation and so the question does not arise of anyone being left out,” he said.

The AAP has gradually made its presence felt in various municipal elections in Gujarat, including Surat and Gandhinagar where it has either clinched a good seat share or a decent vote share.
