WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging platform, was down for several users in India on Tuesday (25) with people unable to either send or receive messages on their devices.
Meta said it was trying to restore the WhatsApp services as soon as possible.
“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore
@WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible,” a Meta company spokesperson, according to Asian News International.
Several users in India reported that they were not able to access WhatsApp messenger on Android or iOS and even WhatsApp web to send messages to their contacts or groups. Similar complaints also came from other countries, trackers reported.
According to DownDetector, a website which reports on outages and other issues, the complaints were being reported since 12.20 pm local time India, ANI reported.
Affected regions based on Downdetector’s heat-map included major Indian cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Nagpur, and Lucknow, among others.
