INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (25) night returned from his twin-nation tour of the US and Egypt and after landing at the airport in New Delhi, the first thing he asked JP Nadda, national president of his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and other leaders about the situation in India.
The party leaders who went to the airport to receive Modi confirmed this to news agency PTI.
The prime minister left for the US on a four-day state visit on June 20 when several landmark agreements were inked between the two nations. He also addressed the US Congress, second time after 2016, and met business leaders and the Indian diaspora. On June 22, he was hosted by US president Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden over a state dinner.
Besides Nadda, India’s minister of state for external affairs Meenakshi Lekhi was also present at the airport to receive Modi. Among others were BJP parliamentarians from Delhi, such as Harsh Vardhan, Hans Raj Hans and Gautam Gambhir.
“He asked Nadda ji how it is going here, and Nadda ji told him that party leaders were reaching out to people with the report card of the nine years of his government, and the country is happy,” BJP MP Manoj Tiwari told reporters when asked what Modi asked them after meeting them at the airport.
Speaking to reporters, BJP MP Parvesh Verma said Modi asked what was happening in the country and how the party’s public outreach was going on. He said the prime minister was apprised of the situation.
The opposition have flayed Modi over his absence from the country when the north-eastern state of Manipur was witnessing relentless ethnic violence for nearly two months now. The home minister, Amit Shah, convened an all-party meeting over the situation in Manipur on Saturday (24) and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the prime minister saying it was of little importance to him.
