A shocking incident unfolded in Kolkata when a West Bengal government employee went on a stabbing spree after his leave request was denied. The accused, identified as Asit Sarkar, works at Karigori Bhavan in the Newtown area. Following the attack, he was seen walking the streets with a blood-stained knife in hand. The police arrested him shortly after the rampage.

According to police reports, the stabbing incident occurred on Thursday around 12 noon inside the office. Sarkar had applied for leave, but when his request was rejected, an argument ensued with his colleagues. This escalated into a violent attack where he stabbed multiple people, including a security guard.

The injured individuals were identified as Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santunu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul. Two of them sustained severe injuries and are in critical condition.

A police officer investigating the case stated, “Sarkar, a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, works in the technical education department. This morning, following a tiff with his colleagues over taking time off, he attacked them with a knife and then tried to flee. We have arrested him.”

As the accused roamed the streets carrying the knife, alarmed bystanders captured videos of him. In one such video, Sarkar can be heard warning passersby not to approach him. The footage quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention to the incident.

A traffic police officer eventually intercepted him and ordered him to drop the weapon. Sarkar complied and surrendered without further resistance.

During interrogation, Sarkar revealed that his colleagues had allegedly made inappropriate remarks about his father, which enraged him. While the authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances leading to the attack, they are also probing how Sarkar acquired the knife used in the assault.

A senior police official confirmed, “The accused was seen running through the streets of New Town with the knife. Police are investigating the incident.”

Authorities are conducting a parallel investigation to determine whether the attack was premeditated and if there were underlying tensions at Sarkar’s workplace. Additional security measures have been implemented at Karigori Bhavan to prevent similar incidents.

The brutal nature of the attack has sparked concerns about workplace violence and mental health support for employees. Sarkar is currently in police custody, and further legal proceedings are expected to follow.
