Indian National Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday (6) joined her party’s ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ (Unite India March) alongside her son Rahul Gandhi who has been walking in the pan-India march for days now, and other leaders. The 75-year-old leader walked with the party’s leaders, workers, and supporters for a few kilometres in Mandya district of the southern state of Karnataka where the yatra recently entered.

Amid the walk, Rahul was seen doing something that set the internet on fire. The 52-year-old, who has been interacting with common people during the march aimed at mobilising support for the party, was seen stopping and kneeling down to tie the lace of his mother’s shoe.

Images and videos of the incident went viral on social media in no time with reactions pouring in.

Senior party parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor, who is in the race to become the next Congress president succeeding Sonia, shared the photo of Rahul tying his mother’s shoelace on his Twitter account. He captioned the adorable bond between the mother and son in Hindi, saying, “Even if she breathes, she also has prayers; Mothers do not break, mothers are mothers!”

Rahul also shared a photo of himself with his mother. While tweeting the image of him walking alongside Sonia, he wrote in Hindi, “We have brought kayaks out of the storms in the past, we will break the limits of every challenge even today, we will unite India together.”

During their march, Rahul was seen frequently taking care of his mother and the duo were also seen comforting a girl, who was walking alongside them, after she fell.

This is the first time that Sonia has joined a public event after recovering from Covid-19 earlier this year.

The yatra kicked off in Tamil Nadu on September 8 and will cover 3,570 kilometres till Jammu and Kashmir, spanning over five months.

The Congress has claimed that it wants to combat the alleged divisive politics of the Narendra Modi government in New Delhi through the march.
