IT is often said that the Indian Premier League (IPL) helps the local meet the global in cricket. The annual tournament sees cricketers from different countries mingle and stay with each other, so much so that they learn more than enough about each other. As a result, all barriers of mystery get broken down when it comes to international cricket where colleagues in the IPL become opponents.
The same was seen during the ongoing fifth Test between England and India at Edgbaston. India batter Shreyas Iyer came out to bat in the second innings when cameras on the ground saw England coach Brendon McCullum making some hand gesture towards the home team bowlers.

The plan eventually worked out in the 60th over when seamer Matthew Potts bowled a short one at Iyer who was batting on 19 and gave a simple catch to James Anderson at mid-wicket. The Indian batter, who fell for only 15 in the first innings, is known for his vulnerability against short-pitched balls and since he spent quality time with McCullum in the IPL where they have been the captain and coach, respectively, of Kolkata Knight Riders, the New Zealander was not unaware about the Indian’s weakness.
