Bengaluru, called the information technology capital of India and one of the South Asian country’s most developed cities, was exposed to massive rainfall on Sunday (4) that left it completely inundated. While several residential areas went completely under water with vehicles left floating and their owners desperate to find solutions, the authorities were having a harrowing time to bring the city back to order.
“Commuters please note… Before you venture out today expect slow moving traffic in lot of places in the city because of continuous rains and water logging. Please plan your travel accordingly. Traffic police are on their job. Easing and regulating the traffic,” Kala Krishnaswamy, deputy commissioner of police (Traffic), the city’s east division, said in a message posted on his official Twitter account.
Citizen advocacy groups in the city were also busy spreading awareness and asking residents to stay indoors.
However, in Whitefield, one of Bengaluru’s busiest residential areas, a government (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) bus was seen broken down and people gathered to pull it out of water with a rope.
A video of the incident, which is generally seen in times of Rath Yatra or India’s chariot festival involving the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, went viral with reactions pouring in.
