Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and a parliamentarian from the southern city of Hyderabad, on Tuesday (25) said he wished to see a hijab (headscarf)-wearing woman to become India’s next prime minister.

He said this while speaking to the media after campaigning in Bijapur in the southern state of Karnataka for the upcoming municipal corporation elections.

The AIMIM is contesting in four wards of the election scheduled for October 28.

On Tuesday, Owaisi held a door-to-door campaign and a roadshow.

The Hindu right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party, which rules both India and Karnataka, hit back at Owaisi asking when the latter’s party would have a hijab-wearing woman as its chief.
