FORMER India opener Virender Sehwag and his wife, Aarti Ahlawat, are set to end their marriage of 20 years, according to Hindustan Times.
While the couple have not made any public statement in this regard, the daily claims they have been living separately for several months.
Of late, Sehwag and Aarti have limited their public and social media appearances and this has fuelled rumours of an impending separation.
Last Diwali, Sehwag shared photos with his elder son, Aryaveer and his mother, Krishna, on social media, while Aarti and his younger son, Vedant, were conspicuous by their absence.
Sehwag also shared no public post on his 20th marriage anniversary (April 22, 2024). His last photo with Aarti on Instagram was on April 2023.
Sehwag has unfollowed Aarti on Instagram, and she has made her profile private after reports of their divorce started doing the rounds. Aarti has a verified profile on Instagram and 178k followers.
Sehwag and Aarti were childhood friends and met through family connections in the 1980s when he was seven and she was five.
They remained good friends, and Sehwag he proposed her when he was 21. Their relationship culminated in a wedding on April 22, 2004, at the residence of former finance minister Arun Jaitley.
Sehwag retired from international cricket in 2015.
He was well-known for his explosive stroke play and was part of the ‘fab-five’ that also included Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman.
