ACTOR-COMEDIAN Vir Das will be the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards and emcee the 52nd edition in New York City on November 25.
Das is returning to the stage after winning the best comedy award in 2023 for his Netflix stand-up special “Vir Das: Landing.”
In a statement, Das expressed his honor at being chosen as host: “Having won an Emmy last year for Landing, I feel a profound connection to this event and am incredibly honoured to play a central role in it.”
He also noted that the Emmys have been a beacon of excellence and celebration of global stories.
The International Emmy Awards, organised by the New York-based International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS), highlight the best television programs produced and aired outside the U.S. Bruce L Paisner, IATAS President & CEO, praised Das for his talent and humor, stating, “With his unique humour and perspective on the world, he now joins a distinguished group of Gala hosts over the years who fit in perfectly with our global audience.”
Das, also known for his roles in “Go Goa Gone” and “Delhi Belly,” has a strong presence in the international comedy scene.
His previous stand-up special, “Vir Das: For India,” was nominated for the best comedy category at the 2021 International Emmys.
He is currently performing his ‘Mind Fool’ comedy tour and recently appeared in Prime Video’s “Call Me Bae.”
