ACTOR-COMEDIAN Vir Das is set to host the International Emmy Awards in November, following his 2023 win for his comedy special “Landing.”

Das, who has received praise for his portrayal of news anchor Satyajit Sen in “Call Me Bae,” said he chooses roles based on their level of fun and unpredictability.

“It has got to be fun. If it’s crazy, I will do it,” Das stated, discussing his approach to projects, regardless of the platform.

The actor explained his current career stage, likening it to a car engine that is ready for a drive after years of work.

“I’m blessed that there are no middlemen between me and my audience. I can access them directly and they’ll show up,” he said.

Das is also moving toward taking on more creative control in his projects. “For instance, my next project is mounted by Aamir Khan and I co-directed it,” he revealed, noting that he is now focusing on creating his own projects, in addition to acting.

Reflecting on his role in “Call Me Bae,” Das described the character as conflicted, someone who resents privilege but also deeply desires it.

“I just tried to play it as straight as I possibly could,” he said about his portrayal of the character.
