The business tycoon, who hails from the state, made the announcement in the presence of prime minister Narendra Modi who inaugurated the event.

GAUTAM Adani, chairman of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and the second richest man of Asia, on Wednesday (10) said his company will invest Rs 2 lakh crore (£19 billion) in the western state of Gujarat over the next five years. He also announced that the Adani Group will invest Rs 55,000 crore (£5.2 billion) in the state till next year.
The 61-year-old tycoon, who hails from the state, made the announcement on the inaugural day of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Gandhinagar, Gujarat’s capital. Prime minister Narendra Modi, several ministers of his government and a host of dignitaries from across the globe were present on the occasion.
This year, the 10th edition of the business summit, which was started by Modi as the chief minister of Gujarat in 2003, is being held.

“Mr Prime Minister, you don’t just think of India’s future but also shape it. Under your leadership, India is on its way to becoming a fully developed nation by 2047. You have successfully put India on a global map as a major power and are making her Atmanirbhar (self reliant),” Adani said, NDTV reported.
“The statistics of the past decade are remarkable: Since 2014, India’s GDP has grown by 185%, and per capita income by a stunning 165%. This achievement is unparalleled, especially considering this decade’s geopolitical conflicts and pandemic challenges,” he added.

Adani also announced the construction of the world’s largest energy park in Khavda in Gujarat’s Kutch region, covering 725 square kilometres and is visible from space.
The businessman said they were expanding the green supply chain for an “Aatmanirbhar” India and creating the biggest integrated renewable energy ecosystem.
The Adani Group’s investment plan in Gujarat is expected to create more than 100,000 jobs in the state.
