A DELHI court on Wednesday granted seven days interim bail to former JNU student Umar Khalid, accused in the conspiracy case connected to February, 2020 riots, to attend a family event.

Additional sessions judge Sameer Bajpai granted him the reprieve for seven days to attend a family wedding.

Khalid is an accused in the alleged larger conspiracy behind the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.

The violence had erupted during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

As per the bail conditions, Khalid shall not contact any witness and any person in connection with the case, nor use social media during the bail period, Live Law reports.

He will have to surrender in the evening of January 3, 2025 before the concerned Jail Superintendent.

Khalid has been in custody since his arrest by the Delhi Police on September 14, 2020 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case. (Agencies)
