Liz Truss on Monday (5) emerged as the new prime minister of the UK, beating Rishi Sunak in an intense four-week contest. However, as the world started congratulating the 47-year-old leader, another woman also found herself to be a beneficiary.
The Twitter handle of Liz Trussell, also a resident of the UK, is @Liztruss and people started tagging her thinking they reached out to the new prime minister whose Twitter handle is @trussliz. Even the prime minister of Sweden, Magdalena Andersson; UK Green Party parliamentarian Caroline Lucas and the official Twitter account of the British Royal family tagged the wrong Liz.
However, Trussell was not complaining about her overnight fame and she was found responding to the tweets that were actually meant for PM Truss and reached her in fanny ways, making them viral in no time.
Many of the tweets that were posted by verified accounts tagging Trussell were deleted later but the fun-loving netizens had taken their screenshots.
The netizens also praised Trussell for her handling of the misdirected tweets and her quick wit.
One of them said, “Hahahaha @Liztruss deserves to win a comedy award of sorts for this. Thanks for the good laugh while I’m eating lunch”.

Another wrote, “British woman Liz Trussell, who tweets as @LizTruss, has been spending the morning replying to world leaders and it’s possibly the best thing in the history of the internet.”

If everyone thinks @Liztruss is PM, then doesn't she become de facto PM.

I love HER, if not the actual incoming PM!

Apologies, my previous tweet about #ToryLeadership should have been directed to @TrussLiz – not Liz Trussell who tweets at @LizTruss – tho frankly she’d probably make a better job of it

Liz Trussell who has the @Liztruss Twitter handle looks like an absolute hun! Can we please have her as PM instead? @loveofhuns
