Rishi Sunak, the Indian-origin British politician who is running for the post of the country’s premier against Liz Truss, on Thursday (18) visited Bhaktivedanta Manor Temple, the UK headquarters of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) along with his entrepreneur wife Akshata Murthy for Janmashtami celebrations.
Taking to Twitter, the 42-year-old Sunak wrote, “Today I visited the Bhaktivedanta Manor temple with my wife Akshata to celebrate Janmashtami, in advance of the popular Hindu festival celebrating Lord Krishna’s birthday.”

Sunak, who would make history if he becomes the British prime minister, is trailing Truss in the race, the winner of which will be announced next month.
Truss, who is the foreign secretary, has consistently led Sunak in the Conservative Party members’ poll. One survey showed that she has a 32-point lead over Sunak among those who have decided to vote, according to Reuters.
The Conservative Party is in the hunt for a new leader after incumbent prime minister Boris Johnson quit in July over a series of scandals.
