Indian prime minister Narendra Modi is known for his frequent travel abroad and on Tuesday (27), the opposition Indian National Congress took a dig at him on the occasion of the World Tourism Day. The party tweeted that it “must be fun jet setting around the world” in his “expensive plane”.
“Wish PM Modi a Happy #WorldTourismDay. Must be fun jet setting around the world in that expensive plane of yours! Fly safe,” the opposition party, which is in the middle of a crisis and election to choose its next chief, said in a tweet.

Modi is currently in Tokyo, Japan, to attend the state funeral of late Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated in his own country on July 8.
It was only two weeks ago that Modi had a visit to Uzbekistan where he went for a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The Indian prime minister had no foreign visits in 2020 because of Covid-19 pandemic and only three in 2021. But his schedules abroad have started increasing from this year as the pandemic has subsided.
Since becoming the prime minister in 2014, Modi has visited 37 nations across the world once; 14 nations twice; three nations thrice; two nations four times; three nations five times; three nations six times; and one (the United States) seven times.
The World Tourism Day is observed on September 27 by the World Tourism Organisation, which is responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism. The organisation has been celebrating the day since 1980 as it was on this date that its statutes were adopted.
The Congress’s tweet faced a backlash as social media users said it was jealous as it could not use the plane.
Here are some reactions:
??This is the last thing Congress should criticize a PM for. Building international relations is always good for a nation.

Your PM ordered those planes but never got an opportunity to use them.— Harsh Gupta (@harshgupta1961) September 27, 2022
Plane belongs to PMO.
I think you want to say that, congress will never be able to win elections, so technically plane will be left for modiji
