A PRIVATE news channel in the eastern Indian state of Odisha on Sunday (9) took a remarkable step in the country’s television news space by launching an artificial intelligence (AI)-based news anchor named ‘Lisa’.
The artificial woman, wearing an Odisha handloom sari, will present news in both Odia, the language of Odisha, and English for Odisha TV (OTV) Network’s television and digital platforms, according to a release from the company.
As per the company, OTV is gifting Odia television journalism its first AI news anchor ‘Lisa’.
It was reported that while ‘Lisa’ can speak in many languages, she will only present news in Odia and English as of now.
The release said efforts were underway to make ‘Lisa’ more proficient in Odia. One could also follow ‘Lisa’ on all major social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and others.
Litisha Mangat Panda, the company’s digital business head, said that training the artificial news anchor in Odia was a big challenge which they could meet.
She said work was still underway to train ‘Lisa’ more so that she is capable of interacting with others.
In April, Kuwait News, a Kuwaiti media outlet, came up with an A!-generated news anchor ‘Fedha’. The presenter appeared on the Twitter account of Kuwait News website on Saturday (8) in an image of a woman, wearing a black jacket and white t-shirt and sporting light-coloured hair.
The computer-generated woman named "Fedha" appeared on Kuwait News' Twitter feed over the weekend.
