Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) is set to recruit more than 1,000 engineers equipped with new-age digital skills in the country in the next one year, a top company official has said, according to The Hindu businessline.

Mahesh Medhekar, vice president – human resources, MBRDI, said the German automaker is expanding its engineers’ base in India to keep in pace with its plans to accelerate business in the region, the report added.

Presently, the company has a team of around 7,000 people in its R&D centre in the South Asian nation.

Last year, Mercedes-Benz India delivered a good show as it saw its highest sales with 15,822 units.

“India was Mercedes-Benz’s fastest-growing market across the globe, with more than 41 per cent y-o-y growth. We maintained this sales momentum in Q1 2023, with our best ever Q1 sales clocking 4,697 units,” Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO at Mercedes-Benz India, was quoted as saying by The Hindu businessline.

The automobile giant also has an aggressive electric vehicle (EV) map for India and said that one out of every four cars sold by 2027 will be an EV.

Iyer said the company will launch new EVs in the next two years from its global portfolio for the Indian market.

On the question of becoming completely electric by 2030, Manu Saale, managing director and CEO, MBRDI, told the publication that the company still has a long way to go as far as developing charging infrastructure along with the public charging infrastructure in the country is concerned.
