India’s ministry of external affairs (MEA) has reacted to former US president Donald Trump’s recent indictment saying it took note of the incident. It also said that it was for the institutions and systems in the US to decide the next course of action, India Today reported.
Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of the MEA, reportedly said, “We have taken note of Trump’s indictment. We have noted the developments…this is a matter of US institutions and systems to address.”
The 76-year-old Republican leader, who is running for the 2024 presidential election, became the first former American president to be indicted on criminal charges.
He is accused of making hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels through a fixer to silence her during the 2016 presidential election campaign over an alleged affair in 2006.
Trump arrived in New York’s Manhattan court on Tuesday (4), which found him guilty of the charges.
The former president, who visited India in February 2020, was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.
After Trump pleaded not guilty, Judge Juan Merchan set the next court hearing for December 4.
