With less than four years of experience in international cricket, he has not been as known a face but Harry Tector has turned heads by overtaking giant batters such as Virat Kohli, Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith and others in the latest one-day international (ODI) batters’ rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and ending up at No.7.

For the 23-year-old Ireland batter, who has played 32 ODIs since making his debut in the format in 2020 and averages 53 plus in the same with four hundreds, this is the highest rating points (722) by any Ireland cricketer to feature in the top 10 of the ODI rankings.

Tector’s 722 rating points is the best for an Ireland male batter, 10 better than former England captain Eoin Morgan who was born in Ireland. But his 712 points reached in 2019 came when he was playing for the Three Lions. Paul Stirling had the earlier highest record of 697 points as an exclusive Ireland player.

The youngster will have more opportunities to improve his ranking as Ireland is set to participate in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe starting next month.
