Filmmaker Tahira Kashyap, wife of popular actor Ayushmann Khurrana, has opened up about her ongoing battle with breast cancer as she revealed that the disease has relapsed after seven years. Diagnosed initially in 2018, Tahira’s courageous announcement on Instagram comes on the same day as World Health Day, underscoring the importance of early detection and regular health screenings.

In a heartfelt post on Monday, Tahira addressed her followers with a mix of humor and determination. She wrote,
“Seven year itch or the power of regular screening- it’s a perspective, I had like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me…I still got this.”
Her message not only highlights her resilience but also serves as a reminder for others to stay proactive about their health. The inclusion of this quote reflects her belief in the vital role of routine check-ups and early diagnosis in managing the disease.

Tahira continued her post with an uplifting message of hope and positivity, stating,
“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life becomes too generous and throws them again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink and sip it with all the good intentions. Because for one it’s a better drink and two you know you will give it your best once again (red heart emoji).”
Her candid words resonate with many who face similar challenges, as she balances the harsh realities of cancer with a light-hearted yet determined outlook on life.

Adding further emphasis on the significance of regular health checks, she concluded her post with an important call-to-action:
“#regularscreening #mammogram not shying away from saying it #breastcancer #onemoretime #letsgo. Ironically or not, today is #WorldHealthDay. Let’s do whatever we can in our capacity to take care of ourselves. #gratitude through and through (folded hands emoji).”
This rallying cry is timely, as World Health Day serves as a global platform to promote awareness and preventive measures for various health conditions, including cancer. By sharing her personal journey, Tahira is encouraging others to embrace health awareness and to take preventive steps seriously.

Tahira’s announcement comes after she had previously shared a powerful post featuring a photo of herself with a clean-shaven head—one of the visible side effects of chemotherapy. In that post, she reflected on her journey and paid homage to the many brave women who have fought their own battles with cancer. She wrote,
“And that’s life! And you make the most of it. And in making the most of it you realise how humbling the experience is. I know so many brave women who have fought with all their might. I bow my head in respect to all of them. Let everyone’s experience be a reminder to value our lives. To know how significant each one of us is. To know nobody else on the face of the earth can do what you can do. Spread the awareness. Early breast cancer detection is curable, not just treatable. Love and hope and joy to all Life is to celebrate gratitude all the way.”
This reflective message resonated deeply with her audience, serving as both a tribute to the resilience of cancer survivors and a reminder of the power of community support and awareness.

In a recent interview with ANI, Tahira further opened up about her experience, emphasizing the critical role of timely medical intervention. She stated,
“Cancer is a journey that tests your strength, resilience, and faith. Early diagnosis and affordable treatment are, however, key to survival, and thanks to such government schemes, millions can now hope for a better future. Let’s continue to support one another and raise awareness about early breast cancer detection because together, we can beat cancer.”
Her words reinforce the message that although the battle against cancer is arduous, support systems, both governmental and communal, play an essential role in improving survival rates.

Beyond her health struggles, Tahira continues to thrive in her professional life. She made her directorial debut with the film Sharmajee Ki Beti, which features a talented ensemble cast including Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta, Saiyami Kher, Vanshika Taparia, Arista Mehta, Sharib Hashmi, and Parvin Dabas. The film, which premiered on Prime Video last year, is a testament to her creativity and passion for storytelling.

As she fights this renewed battle with cancer, Tahira Kashyap remains a source of inspiration for many, balancing her personal challenges with her artistic pursuits and family life alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and their two children.
