Ace India batter Virat Kohli continued with his good form in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia on Wednesday (2) when he slammed an unbeaten 64 off 44 balls against Bangladesh in a crucial Group 2 game at the Adelaide Oval. In the process, the 33-year-old also eclipsed former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena to become the highest scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup.
At 16, Kohli went past the former Lanka batter who scored 1,016 runs in 31 innings. It came in Kohli’s 25th innings in the tournament’s history. He has scored 13 fifties in 23 innings in the marquee tournament.

The half-century against Bangladesh was also Kohli’s third in four matches in this tournament, following the match-winning 82 not out against Pakistan in Melbourne and 62 not out against the Netherlands in Sydney.
Kohli’s sublime form in the T20 World Cup has been seen earlier as well. In the 2014 edition in Bangladesh, he was the leading run-getter with 319 runs and helped India reach the final where they lost to Sri Lanka.
In 2016, Kohli finished in the second place in the list of run-getters with 273 as hosts India reached the semi-finals.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India congratulated Kohli over his accomplishment.

On Wednesday, Kohli played freely as wickets tumbled around him after he came early following the departure of captain Rohit Sharma for only two runs.
India are currently placed second in the points table with four points and a win over Bangladesh will take them to the top spot, ahead of South Africa.
Bangladesh also have four points but are placed third owing to an inferior net run rate.
