Sunny Deol has officially confirmed that he will portray Lord Hanuman in Ramayana, the much-anticipated epic directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The film, which already has a star-studded lineup including Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana, is being billed as one of the most ambitious cinematic adaptations of the iconic Hindu epic in Indian film history.
Speaking to News18, Deol shared his excitement for the role. “I am working in Ramayan as Hanuman. Yes, that is true,” he stated. When asked about his spiritual beliefs, the veteran actor responded passionately, “Kaun bhagwan mein nahin maanta? Hum hain bhagwan ke wajah se hain,” expressing deep reverence and connection to the divine.
Deol also addressed the challenges of taking on such a monumental role. “For actors, we love challenging things because it’s fun. We have to nail the character and listen to our director. I immerse myself into my character so that people believe in it. I have not started shooting yet but it will be one of the most mega films,” he said, indicating his full commitment to the project.
Ramayana has been a hot topic ever since it was officially announced by Namit Malhotra last month. The project is set to be released in two parts, with Part One arriving in 2026 and Part Two in 2027. The first-look poster—featuring a fiery sky and an arrow pointed toward destiny—has already set social media ablaze, heightening anticipation for what many believe will be a cinematic milestone.
The rest of the cast is equally impressive. While Ranbir Kapoor takes on the divine role of Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi has been cast as Sita, bringing her grace and depth to the character. Kannada superstar Yash will portray the mighty Ravana, making this a face-off of epic proportions. Lara Dutta will be seen as Queen Kaikeyi, and Sheeba Chaddha will play Manthara, Kaikeyi’s cunning maid who sparks the major turning point in the epic.
Earlier last year, leaked images from the set showing Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in costume as Ram and Sita went viral online, giving fans an early glimpse of the scale and attention to detail the project promises.
As for Sunny Deol, this will be one of his most spiritually and physically demanding roles yet. Known for his commanding screen presence and powerful voice, fans are already hailing the casting choice as perfect for the devoted and mighty Hanuman.
With high expectations, a visionary director, and an ensemble cast that bridges generations and film industries, Ramayana is shaping up to be more than just a film—it’s poised to be a cultural phenomenon.
