Tom Holland is set to return as Peter Parker in the fourth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise. The upcoming film, officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, was announced at CinemaCon, where director Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) confirmed the movie’s release date as July 31, 2026.
Although Holland was not present at the event, he sent a video message expressing his excitement about what he called “a fresh start” for Peter Parker following the dramatic events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Holland’s last appearance as Spider-Man left fans on a heartbreaking note. At the end of No Way Home, Peter made the ultimate sacrifice by erasing his identity from the memory of everyone he loved, including MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon). The upcoming film is expected to explore the emotional and physical journey of a Peter Parker who is now completely alone.
During the CinemaCon panel, Cretton shared his enthusiasm for helming the next Spider-Man film, emphasizing how he and his team are deeply involved in the creative process. “Daily, we’re nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an emotional story and a ride we haven’t seen before,” he said.

Cretton also revealed a personal connection to the superhero, explaining that his one-year-old son’s first word was Spider-Man—or rather, Minah-Man in baby talk—after spotting a comic book on his side table. The director expressed his love for Peter Parker’s “messy humanity,” a trait that has made the character so relatable to audiences for generations.
Principal photography for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to begin this summer, with Marvel Studios keeping further plot details under wraps. Given the film’s title, many fans speculate that it could draw inspiration from the controversial Brand New Day storyline from the comics, in which Peter Parker’s life is drastically altered after a deal with Mephisto erases his marriage to MJ. Whether the MCU adaptation will take a similar route remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, another Spider-Man project also received a release update. Sony announced that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the highly anticipated conclusion to the animated Spider-Verse trilogy, will hit theaters on June 4, 2027. The film will continue the story of Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) as he faces alternate versions of himself and battles the villainous Prowler (Jharrel Jerome).
Producer Phil Lord teased that the film will once again “break the boundaries of animation,” promising a visually stunning and emotionally gripping conclusion to Miles Morales’ story.
As Marvel fans eagerly await more details on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, speculation is already swirling about Peter Parker’s potential involvement in Avengers: Doomsday. While Holland has not yet been officially announced as part of the massive ensemble cast, his return as Spider-Man in a future Avengers film seems inevitable.
With a fresh new story and a talented director at the helm, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is poised to take Peter Parker’s journey to exciting new heights.
