PLAYBACK singer Sonu Nigam has publicly criticised Rajasthan chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma and other delegates for leaving his concert midway during the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit in Jaipur.

The cultural event was organised at Hotel Rambagh Palace on Monday as part of the summit’s proceedings.

In a video message shared on Instagram, Nigam stated, “I saw that CM sahab and others got up and left in the middle of the show. As soon as they left, all the delegates also left. This is my request to all these politicians that if you yourself do not appreciate your artiste then what will the people outside do. What would they think? I have never seen such a thing.”

He expressed that such actions are disrespectful, particularly to Saraswati, the goddess of music and arts. “My request to you is that if you have to get up and leave, either you should not come or should leave before the show starts. It is very rude to get up and leave in the middle of any artiste’s performance. This is an insult to Saraswati,” he said.

The event was part of a three-day summit inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi earlier that day at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Center.

Nigam, known for songs like “Ye Dil Deewana” and “Abhi Mujhmein Kahin”, later added that he initially didn’t notice the departure of the chief minister and delegates but was informed by messages on social media. He advised politicians to avoid attending cultural performances if they cannot stay for the full duration.

“I know you have a lot of work… You should not waste your time on a show. You should leave early. Very humbly, it’s a request to all of you,” the singer concluded.
