AMERICAN singer Mary Millben has come out in support of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi over the situation in Manipur where ethnic violence has claimed more than 180 lives and rendered several hundreds homeless, saying India “has confidence in its leader” and that the prime minister would fight for the mothers, daughters and women of the state and they would receive justice.
In a post on X, formerly called Twitter, the 41-year-old singer said, “The truth: India has confidence in its leader. The mothers, daughters, and women of #Manipur, India will receive justice. And #PMModi will always fight for your freedom.”

She also said taking a dig at the opposition in India, “The truth: to associate with a party that dishonors cultural legacy, denies children the right to sing the anthem of its country, and degrades one’s country abroad, this is not leadership. This is unprincipled.
“Dishonest journalism will paint false narratives. Opposition voices will chant loudly without substance. But the truth, the truth will always set people free. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., #India, ‘let freedom ring.’ My beloved India, let truth…ring. PM @narendramodi, you have my confidence. I praying for you.”
She also mentioned Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Indian parliament to convey her support for Modi’s government which defeated by voice vote a no-confidence motion that was initiated by the opposition over the situation in Manipur.
“The people of the country have repeatedly reposed trust in our government, want to thank them all,” Modi said after the no-trust vote failed.
Last month, Millben thanked Modi after the latter spoke over a viral video showing two women in Manipur paraded naked and sexually assaulted by a mob. He said the incident had put 1.4 billion Indians to shame and assured that the guilty would not be spared.
My heart grieves for the women assaulted in #Manipur. Thank you PM @narendramodi for publicly addressing this inhuman behavior. These women are not only daughters of #India, they are children of God. Human dignity matters to us all. I’m praying for these precious women and for…

On July 20, a day after the video surfaced and Modi spoke out ahead of the beginning of the monsoon session of the parliament where the opposition moved the no-trust motion against his government, Millben said in a X post, “My heart grieves for the women assaulted in #Manipur. Thank you PM @narendramodi for publicly addressing this inhuman behavior. These women are not only daughters of #India, they are children of God. Human dignity matters to us all. I’m praying for these precious women and for swift justice.”
Millben had touched the Indian PM’s feet after singing India’s National Anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ when Modi went to the US on a state visit. A video of the incident also went viral.
