VETERAN actor Shabana Azmi has criticised media outlets for prematurely reporting the death of tabla maestro Zakir Hussain without confirmation.

Azmi, who worked with Hussain in the 1997 film “Saaz”, shared her disappointment in an Instagram story on Wednesday.

“What is this rush to put out news on social media before confirming it. I’m deeply saddened by how… RIP Zakir Hussain,” she wrote.

Unverified reports of Hussain’s passing circulated on Sunday evening, prompting reactions from celebrities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Ranveer Singh, Nimrat Kaur, Riteish Deshmukh, and Anupam Kher.

However, Hussain’s sister Khursheed clarified to PTI that while he was “very critical,” he was still alive at the time.

Hussain’s family confirmed on Monday morning that he had passed away in a San Francisco hospital due to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

The legendary percussionist was 73.
