HARDEEP Singh Kohli, a veteran Scottish comedian and broadcaster, has been arrested by Scotland police and charged in connection with sexual offences that are not recent.

The 54-year-old had been released and would be present before a court on a later date, Police Scotland announced in a brief statement, The Guardian reported.

“A 54-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with allegations of non-recent sexual offences,” the force said, adding, “He has been released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date. A report of the circumstances has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Kohli, who was originally a graduate trainee at BBC Scotland, has presented various programmes for the BBC, Channel 4, UKTV and other broadcasters, bagging Royal Television Society and Bafta awards for a kids’ programme.

Kohli, who was born to Punjabi parents in London and brought up in Glasgow, entered the comedy circuit at the Edinburgh fringe 14 years ago. He delivered a one-man show and even cooked curries on stage.

An occasional columnist for newspapers, Kohli was also the runner-up in Celebrity MasterChef in 2006 and took part in Celebrity Big Brother five years ago.
