THE PRODUCERS of the Tamil film “Amaran” have altered a controversial scene after a college student’s phone number was inadvertently exposed, leading to a legal dispute.

A scene where Sai Pallavi’s character Indhu shares her phone number with Sivakarthikeyan’s resulted in a college student from Chennai, Vaageesan, with an identical number receiving over 4,000 calls from people mistaking it for the actor’s number.

Vaageesan filed a lawsuit against the film’s producers, seeking ₹11 million (£101,698.88) in damages.

While the court case remains unresolved, the filmmakers have blurred the number in the version of the movie now streaming on Netflix and in the “Hey Minnale” music video on YouTube.

“Amaran”, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and produced by Kamal Haasan, is based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a modern military hero. Sivakarthikeyan played the lead role, while Sai Pallavi portrayed his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese.

The film, released on October 31, grossed ₹3.3 billion (£30.51 m) globally, becoming Sivakarthikeyan’s highest-grossing project. Its digital release on Netflix was delayed by a week to accommodate its strong box office run.

Music for the film was composed by GV Prakash Kumar, and the supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Bhuvan Arora, and Geetha Kailasam.
