Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed that Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) will be “challenging” for audiences, as they take on the ambitious task of concluding the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
Speaking to Deadline at The Electric State premiere, Joe Russo said, “It’s a lot of work again, we may or may not survive, we’ll see.” He added, “We found a way into the story that we think is gonna be challenging for audiences… it’s really exciting for us.”
When asked about potential appearances from X-Men or Deadpool, Joe remained evasive, saying, “Who knows? I don’t know who we’re gonna see.” Anthony Russo teased, “Anybody in the Marvel bag could show up in this movie.”
A major highlight is Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU—not as Iron Man but as the villain Vincent Van Doom, aka Doctor Doom, in Avengers: Doomsday. His casting marks a significant shift, bringing an iconic face back in an unexpected role.
The Russo Brothers, known for their success with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame, are set to direct both films. Avengers: Secret Wars will serve as the final chapter of Phase 6, concluding the Multiverse Saga.
With the stakes higher than ever, fans eagerly await these blockbuster films, which promise surprises, high stakes, and a game-changing conclusion to the MCU’s ongoing narrative.
