THE retirement of Mithali Raj, one of the biggest names in India’s cricketing history, has left many dejected and among them is actor Taapsee Pannu, who incidentally is playing Raj in her upcoming film ‘Shabaash Mithu’ based on the legendary batter.
Pannu on Wednesday (8) shared an emotional post on Twitter concerning Raj’s retirement from international cricket on the same day and there she said, “Some personalities and their achievements are gender agnostic. You changed the game, now it’s our turn to change the perspective!”

She also mentioned some of Raj’s big milestones in international cricket, such as India’s youngest captain in one-day international cricket; the only Indian cricketer to captain the side in four world cups and reaching the final twice; youngest cricketer to score a 200 in Test cricket, etc.
How the cricketing fraternity reacted to Mithali Raj retirement
Pannu also shared the same message on her Instagram account and thanked Raj for her contribution to India’s women’s cricket.

Pannu’s film – a biographical sports drama on Raj which is directed by filmmaker Srijit Mukherji – will release on July 15.
Raj, who started her journey in the Indian cricket team at 16, expressed her gratitude towards her fans and the Indian women’s cricket team while announcing her retirement.
