AIRBUS made a major gain in the first half of 2023, thanks to a record demand placed from India. According to data revealed on Friday (7), the European aircraft giant saw a big leap in June to have 1,044 net orders in the year’s first half, Reuters reported.
Airbus officially booked 500 jets from India’s budget carrier IndiGo and 250 from Air India that were confirmed at the Paris Airshow last month.
Indian airlines were taking urgent strides to meet the demands of the world’s fastest-growing aviation market and serving the largest population. Industry records were seen tumbling in the process even as manufacturers were struggling to cope with output goals because of supply chain hitches.
The giant’s orders before cancellations stood at 1,080 planes in the first half of 2023. It said it had delivered 316 jets in this period, confirming a report by Reuters.
In comparison, the company bagged 442 orders or a net total of 259 after cancellations in the same period last year and delivered an unadjusted 297 planes. It has aimed to deliver 720 planes this year, the Reuters report added.
Boeing, the US manufacturer, bagged 223 gross orders in the period between January and May, the latest period for which data was found, or a net total of 127 following cancellations. It delivered 206 jets.
However, its upcoming monthly order figures are also set to see a big push, thanks again to high demand from India, after it finalised an order for 220 jets from Air India at the Paris event.
