Ranveer Allahbadia is breaking his silence on the turbulent last three months following the India’s Got Latent controversy — and he’s not sugar-coating anything. In a candid episode of The Ranveer Show, the popular YouTuber and podcaster sat down with actor Emraan Hashmi, reflecting on the darker side of fame, the illusion of friendship in Bollywood, and how he’s rebuilding himself after his fall from grace.
Ranveer began the conversation with raw honesty: “I was genuinely at my peak, and then we crashed and burned. At this point, I’m the powder, and the powder is collecting itself to shape up again.” The digital creator was referring to the storm of backlash he faced earlier this year for controversial remarks made during Samay Raina’s comedy show India’s Got Latent. The fallout included social media outrage, legal trouble, and a temporary ban on his podcast.
The controversy escalated to the point where the Supreme Court had to intervene. While granting him interim protection from arrest, the court still called his remarks “vulgar.” However, the apex court allowed him to resume his show last month, and Ranveer has since returned to social media.
As the two discussed the ordeal, Emraan Hashmi chimed in with his own reflections on how success and failure reveal the true nature of people in the entertainment world. “When your chips are down, you know who your fair-weather friends are. Sab patli gali se nikal jaate hai (they all sneak away quietly),” Emraan said, adding that only a few stand by you when things go south — and those are your real friends.
Emraan didn’t stop there. He went on to expose the performative nature of friendships in Bollywood: “The word ‘friends’ is a very misused term in our industry. The people you party with, hobnob with, gossip with — they come into your life when they need something. It’s a need-based relationship, not real friendship.”

Ranveer echoed the sentiment, admitting how the last few months revealed the “glamour and facade” of the industry. “It was such a shock,” he said, acknowledging that he had to be told to take a break for his mental health after the backlash.
Meanwhile, Emraan is set to appear next in Ground Zero, where he portrays BSF officer Narendra Nath Dubey. Directed by Tejas Deoskar, the film hits theatres on April 25 and also stars Sai Tamhankar.
Ranveer’s journey from the top to the edge — and now slowly crawling back — has stirred conversation around accountability, mental health, and the fickleness of fame. If anything, his crash course in the ruthless realities of the entertainment industry is a wake-up call to others basking in the limelight.
