Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has called on the squad to come together and bounce back from their heavy defeat against Brentford on August 13 as the ‘Red Devils’ take on red arch-rivals Liverpool in the ongoing Premier League at Old Trafford on Monday (22).

United’s 0-4 drubbing against Brentford, which followed an 1-2 loss against Brighton on August 7, has put Eric ten Hag’s side at the bottom of the league. The high-voltage clash against Liverpool throws a big challenge at them and Rushford is convinced that if the side gets together, they can get up and run for the crown which they haven’t won since 2012-13.

United are now at the 19th position as West Ham beat them to the bottom with their third loss. Liverpool are also winless till now with two draws in as many games and are at No.15.

“We have a chance to put it right and there’s no better game to do that than Liverpool at Old Trafford,” Rashford, 24, told Sky Sports.

“If we can play well and get a result it will be positive for us and get us going for the season,” he added.

When asked whether United haven’t always clicked as a unit this season, Rashford said it hasn’t happened at key moments during games and they had to pay the price.

“It’s something we need to do for as long as possible during 90 minutes. We understand in a 90-minute game it can bring you different challenges but as long as we’re all together I’m confident we can deal with whatever is thrown our way. The sooner we do that the better.

“For us it’s just about getting points on the board. We want to get going for the season and once we do that we’ll get a feel for winning again.”

Speaking on United’s great fall last season when they finished sixth after ending second in the year before, Rashford said, “It’s been tough,” he said. “Especially last season, we didn’t reach the heights we could have reached. We didn’t reach the standard we’re capable of.”

He, however, said that hard work and a positive response to the situation could take them back to the heights.
