Premier League 2022: Why despite no win, Liverpool decide to be choosy over signing of players

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given a hint that his team could enter the transfer market before the shutter gets closed next week, saying it is “working constantly” to find the right player to enrich the squad.

According to a report by Sky Sports, Klopp seemed to have ruled out the possibility of improving the side’s injury-hit midfield earlier in August but after Liverpool could pick only two points in their first three matches of the ongoing Premier League, the manager said he would act if the right player becomes available.

Liverpool are yet to pick their first win and after the shocking 1-2 loss against a resurgent Manchester United on Monday (22), they look to turn things around against Bournemouth who they take on at Anfield on Saturday (27).

“You can imagine, we are actually working constantly on these kinds of things but there are reasons why sometimes they don’t happen,” Klopp said at a press conference ahead of the Bournemouth clash.

“We are working but we will see. If something will happen or not, I don’t know.”

Liverpool are currently placed 16th in the points table, one place behind Bournemouth who have a point more in three games.

The manager confirmed that the trio of Curtis Jones, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Kieta could return to training next week and with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also on the sidelines, Liverpool’s midfield looks weak.

Yet, Klopp said that while the club is looking for the right player, it will not get into any panic signing.

“It must be the right player,” he said.

“Some players are just unavailable, that’s how it is, but if we can do something, and if we will do something, then we are 100 per cent convinced about it. If we are not convinced, then we will not do it. That’s the situation.

“If it’s the right player, we need him. If it’s not the right player, we don’t need him,” Klopp was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
