THE arrival of a Pakistani woman in India to marry a Hindu man she befriended through an online gaming platform and live with him has seen reactions on both sides of the border.

Pakistan’s intelligence agencies have informed the country’s government that Seema Ghulam Haider, mother of four, sneaked into India to live with the Hindu man because of love “only”.

“Pakistani woman Seema Haider left the country only to marry an Indian man (Sachin Meena) out of love as no other factor/motive has come to forth so far,” Pakistani Urdu daily Jang, reported, quoting a report of the Pakistani intelligence agencies.

The 30-year-old Seema, who is from Karachi, got in touch with Sachin Meena, 22, in India while playing PUBG in 2019 and soon, a dramatic love-story unfolded between the duo who were living more than 1,300 kilometres apart in neighbouring countries not known for having smooth ties.

The two live in Rabupura area of Greater Noida near the Indian capital, Delhi, where Sachin runs a provision store, according to the police of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

While Seema was arrested on July 4 for illegally entering India without a visa via Nepal with her four children, all aged below seven years, Sachin was put behind bars for sheltering the illegal immigrants.

Both of them were later released from jail.

Mian Mithoo, a high-profile religious leader in rural Sindh in Pakistan, known for using his seminary to convert Hindu girls to Islam and even bandits, has openly threatened to punish Seema if she returned to her home country.

His supporters have also threatened to attack Hindu worship places in Seema’s village. On Sunday (16), there were reports of an attack on Radha Swami Darbar Temple in Sindh. Jacobabad General Hindu Panchayat president Lalchand Seetlani and other office-bearers have condemned the attack.

Mumbai Police gets threat call

Last week, the police in the western Indian city of Mumbai alleged to have received a threat call from an unidentified Urdu-speaking caller, who warned that India could face a 26/11-like terror attack if Seema doesn’t return to Pakistan.

“Agar Seema Haider wapas nahi ayi, toh Bharat ka nash hoga (If Seema Haider doesn’t return, India will face destruction),” the caller said as per India Today.

The caller also said that everyone should be prepared for an attack similar to the 2008 attacks that had killed more than 160 people in Mumbai and the government of Uttar Pradesh will be responsible. The state is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party of prime minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, Seema has reportedly been ostracised by her family and neighbours for defying local social norms and marrying an Indian man.
