THE PAKISTAN army intruded into the Indian side and also violated the ceasefire by opening fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said on Wednesday (2).
The violation took place at 1.10 pm on Tuesday and the Indian troops responded with “controlled and calibrated” retaliation.
While the Indian Army made no mention of any casualty on the Pakistan side, official sources said five enemy soldiers were injured in the explosion and the subsequent firing between the two sides.
Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said in a statement that “On 01 Apr 2025, a mine blast occurred in Krishna Ghati Sector due to Pakistan Army intrusion across LoC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and ceasefire violation by Pakistan Army.”
“Own troops responded effectively in a controlled and calibrated manner. Situation is under control and being closely monitored,” he said.
He said the Indian Army reiterates the importance of upholding the Director General Military Operation understanding of 2021 to maintain peace along the LoC.
Ceasefire violations along the borders of Jammu and Kashmir have been rare since the two countries renewed an agreement on February 25, 2021.
Kathua standoff
Meanwhile, a combing operation is underway in Kathua to track down three terrorists who escaped after a brief encounter with security forces on Monday (31) night, officials said.
The operation, led by the Special Operations Group (SOG), Army, and CRPF, has entered its tenth day.
Last Thursday, two terrorists were killed, and four police personnel lost their lives in the encounter in the Saniyal area of the district.
The officials said the three terrorists are believed to be from a group that had its first face-off with security forces in the Nursery area near the International Border on March 23. All of the terrorists had managed to escape.
Four days later, security forces engaged them in an encounter in a forest area of the Sanyal belt of Kathua when two terrorists were eliminated, and the rest managed to flee. During this exchange of fire, four policemen were also killed and three others injured.
With the hiding terrorists changing their locations in the jungle, the security forces have launched a multi-agency operation to track them down.
The search operation was intensified early on Monday (31) morning with aerial surveillance and sniffer dogs being deployed, culminating into a fresh encounter in the night. (PTI)
