Oscars 2025: ‘Anora’ dominates with top wins, ‘Emilia Perez’ falls short

The 2025 Academy Awards witnessed a night full of surprises, upsets, and historic wins. The biggest winner of the evening was Anora, which clinched five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Original Screenplay. The film, directed by Sean Baker, surpassed expectations, leaving behind Emilia Perez, the most-nominated film of the year, which took home only two awards.

Sean Baker made history by matching Walt Disney’s record of winning four competitive Oscars in a single night. Meanwhile, The Brutalist secured three wins, while Wicked and Dune: Part Two each won two awards.
