EXCITEMENT was in the air as Asian cricketing arch-rivals India and Pakistan took on each other in a World Cup match in Ahmedabad in the Indian state of Gujarat on Saturday (14).

While fans and experts were enjoying the game at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s biggest cricket stadium, business houses also chipped in to make the most of the electric atmosphere.

Various brands such as Zomato, Tinder, Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart joined the bandwagon with witty posts on social media and the one by Zomato was particularly enjoyed by the Indian supporters.

The restaurant aggregator and food-delivery platform shared on X a post featuring a picture of a billboard that read, “Dear Pakistan, burger pizza milega, World Cup nahi” (Dear Pakistan, you can get burger, pizza but not World Cup).

Online food-ordering and delivery programme Swiggy Instamart also came up with a witty post to the Indian supporters’ liking. It said, “Don’t cook anything green today, because team india is going to do that for us.”

By ‘green’, it meant the Pakistan cricket team that has a green cricketing attire.

In another post, the company said, “yeah there will be rain but in the form of tears(padosiyon ke)” hinting at a possible loss of Pakistan in the game. It added a picture of an Instamart order for a raincoat.

“The only day we’ll ask you to stay away from green flags,” Tinder India, which is a dating app, said in a post.

Blinkit, an Indian instant delivery system, also posted a cheeky one, saying, “RT if you want India to win REPLY if you want Pakistan to lose”. The app also posted a picture of a mosquito repellant cream, especially for Shubman Gill, who reportedly was down with dengue and missed his country’s first two matches in the World Cup, against Australia and Afghanistan.

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first in the game. Their openers put up a decent partnership before Mohammed Siraj picked the first wicket for his side when he caught Abdullah Shafique plumb before the wicket.
