Former US president Donald Trump might have had a forgettable outing on Tuesday (4) when he was arraigned by a court in New York on 34 charges related to allegedly paying hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to cover up a purported affair between the duo but he also had something to cheer about on the same day.

The 76-year-old businessman-politician secured a legal victory against Daniels who was asked to pay more than $121,000 (£971,65) to the former’s attorneys by the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals in California after the actress lost a defamation case.

Daniels, it may be noted, is already paying more than $500,000 (£401,510) in court-ordered payments to the former president’s attorneys.

According to CNN, the order was delivered the same day when Trump was arraigned.

Trump attorney Harmeet Dhillon of the Dhillon Law Group shared a copy of the order on Twitter, saying, “Congratulations to President Trump on this final attorney fee victory in his favor this morning.”

The civic litigation is officially not related to the Republican’s arrest and charges filed against him in New York but involved Daniels who was allegedly paid $130,000 (£104,393) hush money during the campaign for the 2016 presidential election to keep silent about the alleged affair. Trump denies the affair.

In March last year, Daniels said she would “go to jail” before paying a penny to Trump after a failed defamation suit filed by her former lawyer Michael Avenatti.
