ACTOR Anushka Sharma opened up about the challenges of parenting, saying that there is too much pressure to be a “perfect parent.”

Speaking at a brand promotion event on Wednesday, Sharma emphasized the importance of acknowledging mistakes in front of children, which she believes helps them grow with a realistic understanding of life.

“There’s too much pressure to be, like, this perfect parent, and we are not perfect parents. Like, we will complain about things, and then it’s okay to admit it to them (children). Just complain about it. That’s my thing,” she said.

Sharma, who shares two children with cricketer Virat Kohli — three-year-old Vamika and six-month-old Akaay — said both parents have come to value family traditions more. They have begun cooking family recipes to pass on cultural heritage to their children.

“We’ve started having this discussion at home that if we don’t make the things our mom’s did, then we will not be passing on these recipes, you know? So sometimes I cook, sometimes my husband cooks, and we really do try to make the way our moms did, like out of memory,” Sharma said.

The actor also highlighted the importance of routines, given the frequent travel their family experiences. Maintaining consistency, she believes, helps the children feel more secure despite the constant changes.

Sharma said her approach to teaching values, such as gratitude, is by leading by example rather than through direct instruction.

She noted that children pick up on how their parents live rather than being taught explicitly.
