No ‘love’ off the court: Quiet room not to be used for sex, Wimbledon warns tennis fans

Last year, officials asked visitors to use the space for prayer, meditation, breastfeeding or even if they wanted to avoid the sun.

WIMBLEDON has told tennis fans that a quiet room meant to be used for prayers and meditation should not be used by couples looking for a space to get intimate, The Telegraph has reported.

It said “amorous” couples reportedly used the secluded area near court 12 during the tournament last year for personal enjoyment and such incidents left some visitors horrified.

Sally Bolton, chief executive of the All England Lawn Tennis Club told the news outlet that “we’ll be making sure that people are using it the right way”.

“If people need space to go to pray, it’s the quiet space for that. There is an opportunity to breastfeed there. But, we are looking for it to be used in the right way,” she was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

The Guardian reported while Wimbledon 2022 was underway that some couples were reportedly misusing a new dedicated quiet room at SW19. It said spectators reported noticing sheepish-looking couples who emerged from the facility near court 12.

While one spectator saw a man and woman leaving the room with “big grins” on their faces and there was little doubt what they were up to, another person who visited the facility reportedly heard “sounds of intimacy” emerging from behind the next door.

Wimbledon officials had also urged visitors at that time to respect the area and use the space for prayer, meditation, breastfeeding or even if they wanted to avoid the sun.

The facility, which has two armchairs, a foldaway table and charging amenities, is located in the Southern Village where guests can go for private meditation, prayer or reflection or simply to avoid crowds at the packed grounds, says the official access guide for 2023.
