IRISH actor Nicola Coughlan, known for her role as Penelope Featherington in Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” has said that the upcoming fourth season of the show will draw parallels to the classic fairytale “Cinderella.”

The new season will centre around Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, and his romance with Sophie Baek, a mysterious masked woman portrayed by newcomer Yerin Ha.

Speaking about her experience on the series, Coughlan said, “It’s always a joy to come back to. This season feels totally new and fresh. We have brilliant new leads Luke and Yerin. They’re working super, super hard.”

Describing the season’s tone, she added, “It’s more a story of an ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ this time, and a sort of ‘Cinderella’ story. It’s going to be really exciting and feel totally new and fresh. I’m excited for people to see it.”

The actor also shared insights about her recent work on the Audible audiobook “Misdirected”, describing thematic similarities between it and “Bridgerton”.

“‘Bridgerton‘ takes eight months to film. We did ‘Misdirected’ in a week. It’s really satisfying to do something so quickly and have it be a complete project,” she said, noting the collaborative effort with co-narrator Gwilym Lee.

On whether she drew inspiration from Bridgerton narrator Julie Andrews for her audiobook role, Coughlan said, “She’s the best of the best. I would be very lucky to do anything near what she does.”

Season four of “Bridgerton” is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the series’ signature Regency-era romances.

Meanwhile, “Misdirected”, written by Lucy Parker, is available exclusively on Audible as of February 4.
