BJP-led NDA announces tribal leader Draupadi Murmu as presidential candidate: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (21) announced Draupadu Murmu, a former governor of the eastern state of Jharkhand, as its candidate for the July 18 presidential election.

Yashwant Sinha becomes opposition parties’ candidate for presidential election: India’s former finance and foreign minister Yashwant Sinha has been chosen as the common candidate of the opposition parties for the July 18 presidential election.

Ruchira Kamboj to be India’s Permanent Representative to UN: Senior diplomat Ruchira Kamboj was on Tuesday (21) appointed as India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York. Kamboj is a 1987-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer who is currently serving as India’s envoy to Bhutan. She will succeed T S Tirumurti as the Indian envoy to the UN. Kamboj is expected to take up the assignment shortly, India’s external affairs ministry said in a brief statement.

India’s Northern Army Commander leads 1,75,000 troops, families to perform yoga in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh: Northern Army Commander Lt General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday (21) led over 1,75,000 troops and 75,000 families of the Northern Command to perform yoga on the occasion of the International Yoga Day and complimented the soldiers for incorporating yoga asanas into their daily routine in high-altitude areas.

Shiv Sena sacks Eknath Shinde as group leader in Maharashtra state assembly: Shiv Sena, the senior party of Maharashtra’s MVA government, has removed ‘rebel’ Eknath Shinde as the party’s group leader in the Maharashtra legislative assembly after he went incommunicado following the MVA’s setback in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections.

Three dead, as many injured in road accident in Uttar Pradesh: Three people were killed and as many injured after a pickup vehicle playing loud music accidentally ploughed into a group of revellers in Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Tuesday (21). The incident took place around 11 pm local time on Monday when the people were celebrating a wedding anniversary function in a village, the cops added.

Mutual funds can restart investing in international stocks, says Sebi: India’s capital markets regulator Sebi has permitted mutual funds to invest in foreign stocks again within the aggregate mandated limit of $7 billion for the industry, PTI reported. This came following a major correction in global markets that brought the valuation of international stocks down.
