INFOSYS co-founder NR Narayana Murthy has bought a second luxury apartment in Kingfisher Towers, a 34-storey upscale apartment complex located in Bengaluru’s central business district, for ₹500 million (£4.63m).
Four years ago Sudha Murty had bought a flat for ₹290 million (£2.69m) in the same apartment complex.
The new apartment unit measures 8,400-square-foot and has four bedrooms. It is located on the 16th floor, while his wife’s apartment is on the 24th floor.
The deal price is ₹59,500 (£551.50) per square foot, according to Times of India, and it is one of the highest in the city.
The Kingfisher Towers is built on the land, which once housed Vijay Mallya’s ancestral home. The apartment complex, comprising 81 units, was developed in a joint venture between the Prestige Group and Mallya’s company in 2010.
Mallya is wanted for unpaid loans linked to Kingfisher Airlines, and has been in the UK since 2016. The Indian authorities have so far failed to extradite him from the UK.
Murthy has purchased the flat from a Mumbai-based businessman, who owned it for nearly a decade, with Sadhwani Real Estate Holdings facilitating the deal.
Biocon CEO Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw also owns an apartment in the complex.
