Nainar Nagendran likely to succeed Annamalai as Tamil Nadu BJP chief

He is the BJP legislator from Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli constituency, and his name was proposed by the current party chief K Annamalai

BJP LEGISLATOR from Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli constituency, Nainar Nagendran, filed his nomination papers to contest the party’s state president’s election on Friday (11).

Nagendran, currently the state vice president, was formerly with the AIADMK.

He was the first aspirant to arrive at the BJP state headquarters, Kamalalayam, in T Nagar, and file the nomination.

His name was proposed by the current party chief K Annamalai, union minister L Murugan, former union minister Pon Radhakrishnan, and BJP legislator and Mahila Morcha President Vanathi Srinivasan, the party said.

Nagendran is likely to be announced as the new state president, succeeding Annamalai.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and union home minister Amit Shah is in the city to gear up the party machinery for the 2026 Assembly election, a party leader said on Friday (11).

Shah, who arrived here on Thursday night for the crucial meeting, is expected to review the party’s functioning in Tamil Nadu and is likely to discuss alliance prospects in the state.
