In a rerun of Shraddha Walkar murder case of last year where her male partner allegedly murdered her and chopped her body into more than 30 pieces and scattered them over in various parts of Delhi, a man in the western Indian city of Mumbai has now been arrested on charges of killing his live-in partner and chopping the body and even boiling some pieces in a pressure cooker.

According to an NDTV report, decomposed body parts carried out of a house in Mumbai brought back the horrific murder of Walkar. According to the police, the victim in the Mumbai case was identified as 32-year-old Saraswati Vaidya as they found her decomposing mutilated body. She was reportedly living with her partner Manoj Sane, 56, in a live-in relationship for the past three years, according to police sources.

The couple had been living in a rented accommodation in Geeta Nagar area of Mira Road in Mumbai. The police stepped in after the residents of the building where the couple lived complained of an unpleasant smell coming out of the duo’s apartment, the sources told NDTV.

When the officers checked the couple’s apartment, they found Vaidya’s decomposed body which had been cut into several pieces.

Jayant Bajbale, deputy commissioner of police, Mumbai, said a preliminary probe revealed that the woman was brutally murdered. Sane was arrested soon after but the investigators were yet to establish the potential motive behind the crime.

While the police were investigating Vaidya’s death, they cited Sane as saying that she committed suicide.

“The situation is deeply troubling, and we are committed to finding justice for Ms Vaidya,” Bajbale was quoted as saying by NDTV. “We urge the public to come forward with any information they may have to aid in our investigation.”

In May 2022, Walkar, a 27-year-old call centre employee, was allegedly strangled by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala, who was also accused of chopping her body into 35 pieces and disposing them of in a nearby forest over 18 days. He also stored some of the body parts in a refrigerator and burnt her face to hide her identity.

The case came to light only six months later, when Walkar’s father filed a missing persons complaint after failing to contact her for months.  Poonawala was arrested and charged with murder and destruction of proof.
